Thermoforming offers great design freedom. Nelipak produces blisters of all types. Blisters present an excellent opportunity to present the contents of the package to the consumer.
Seal blister (cardboard card) The blister is sealed to the blister card by heat and pressure. The card has a heat-activated coating. Sealing requires a blister sealing unit.
Greenblister (seal blister between cards)
This is an interesting new development. The blister is placed between two pieces of cardboard sealed together. Both two single blisters or a folding blister (clamshell) can be used. These are visible from both the front and the back of the packaging. This design has great promotional value as the contents are clearly visible. It is also attractive for environmental reasons. This is because the packaging components (plastic and cardboard) can be separated completely. Sealing requires a blister sealing unit.
Slide blister
This form of blister pack can be reclosed after opening. The edges of the blister are folded on two, three or four sides. The blister card is inserted under the folded blister edges. This design also allows for the full separation of the packaging into plastic and cardboard. Slide blisters can be closed without special equipment.
Folding or clamshell blisters
This is a twin blister design. The two halves are connected by a hinge. This form of packaging has the advantage that the contents are fully visible, as with the seal blister between cards. The packaging is closed by the tabs moulded into the blister. If a blister card is used it is inserted between the two halves of the pack. Folding blisters can be closed without special equipment.
Wrap-around blister
Wrap-around blisters are perfect for packaging fragile products. The blister has hinged parts which are wrapped around the contents. In this way the blister fully encloses the product for the best possible protection. Wrap-around blisters can be closed without special equipment.
HF welded blisters The two blister halves are joined by high-frequency welding. The resulting joint can only be broken with a knife or scissors. Hence, HF welded blisters are perfect for heavy products and items attractive to shoplifters. An HF generator is required for closing these blisters.
Shipping blisters
Blisters are an excellent solution when fragile items such as ampoules, PCBs, etc. have to be shipped. These blisters are moulded with crumple zones. The use of a tough material such as PP (polypropylene) ensures that the packaging can absorb shocks. These blisters may be combined with padded envelopes and are ideal for sending products by post.
Insert blisters and box interiors
Thermoforming can be used to produce attractive box inserts and interiors. The insert can be tailored to the shape of the product to be packed. This ensures a perfect presentation and protection of the product. These inserts can be made from flock film for a velvet-like appearance.
Standard blisters Nelipak produces not only custom blisters but also standard blisters. The moulds for this type of packaging are available off the shelf. As a result the start-up costs are low and the delivery times short. The wide range of designs and sizes means that suitable moulds are available for many different products. Standard moulds can be fitted with product-specific inserts to produce semicustom products quickly at relatively low cost
