Our Sustainability Vision: “Help Healthcare Be Sustainable”

Our products help deliver safe, effective patient outcomes, protecting products, planet and people.          We collaborate with customers & suppliers to achieve goals for lower emissions, improved circularity and increased resilience in healthcare.

Nelipak products contribute to healthcare being effective, affordable, and available. As the healthcare segment is a significant user of resources, it’s increasingly important that we also help our customers ensure resources are used more efficiently. In this way, we “Help Healthcare be Sustainable.”

We are aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, ensuring and focused on goals 3,8,9,12,13 and 15, where we make the greatest difference.

Our impact is delivered through actions to improve emissions and circularity; deliver impact through social actions; and support supply resilience. We demonstrate our progress through certification.

Working together with our customers, Nelipak offers an integrated approach linking supply chain, manufacturing process improvement and packaging design development which results in efficient material use and lower manufacturing footprint.

Our team of healthcare-focused designers and engineers provides customers with support for design-for-sustainability, helping OEMs create more circular device packaging. We migrate packaging to more sustainable chemistries, or with recycled content.  We help avoid materials of concern and develop products certified recycle ready for the circular economy.

Sustainability is transformational, and the development of In-Silico simulation of packaging by Nelipak is enabling advanced evaluation of performance, indicating right weighting and minimum viable plastic opportunities. This NeliSIM® process works in tandem with in-vitro development expertise to give greater depth of understanding and optimisation than previously possible.

Packaging is typically one of the top sources of supply chain emissions for OEMs. From the use of renewable energy, to the investment in energy efficient assets, to evolving behaviours and expanding operator expense, Nelipak is supporting our customers developing a lower carbon future.

Our focus delivers:

  • Product options with lower environmental impact, better end-of-life performance or circularity
  • Unique design insights optimised through leading digital technologies
  • Lowering greenhouse gas footprint year-on-year
  • Global manufacturing footprint options for lower logistics footprint
  • Supply chain resilience and transparency enshrined in our supplier codes of conduct
  • Company sustainability focus aligned to UNSDGS, credentialed by EcoVadis and captured in our sustainability vision and policy

Accreditations and Memberships:

EcoVadis is a globally trusted provider of business sustainability ratings, intelligence and collaborative performance improvement tools for global supply chains.  Nelipak was evaluated on the strengths of its actions and policies for Environment, Labor & Human Rights, Ethics and Sustainable Procurement. We are proud to have been awarded a Silver medal from EcoVadis in recognition of our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) achievements.

ISCC PLUS is a globally recognized third-party certification system for tracking recycled and bio-based materials through the supply chain. Achieving ISCC PLUS certification recognizes Nelipak’s commitment to helping customers achieve their sustain.ability goals by enabling a circular supply chain. Increasing the use of sustainable packaging solutions is a top priority for many of our customers. Nelipak operates an ISCC accrediceted mass-balance model for sustainable materials at many of our sites.

hprc-logoNelipak is proud to be a member of the Healthcare Plastics Recycling Council (HPRC). The council works to create awareness of the
need to divert more plastic from landfills. It examines ways of helping hospital staff more readily segregate waste material through education programs and clearer marking of thermoformed rigid packaging to help remove uncertainty on the material composition of the plastic used in the trays. The HPRC’s technical teams research and evaluate new materials and packaging innovations which can offer sustainability benefits.
