Title: Sample Maker/Prototype Lead

Purpose
Produce machined parts utilizing milling, turning, grinding, and other fabricating processes to meet assigned project goals and objectives. Responsibilities may also include assembly, inspection, drilling, polishing, fitting, and measuring of tooling and equipment as required.
Responsibilities
- Constructs prototypes for testing, validation, and promotional purposes.
- Prepares, fabricates, and assembles materials and parts.
- Ability to operate a sample forming machine in a safe, productive manner.
- Organizes prototype molds and raw materials for sample production.
- Reads engineering drawings and documentation.
- Drive communication to affected internal departments throughout the new tooling development process.
- Ensure samples meet customer criteria and specifications.
- Inspect and determine quality and issues impacting samples; troubleshoot quality concerns.
- Enter sample run information on electronic forms (Excel, Smartsheet)
- Prioritizing jobs and obtain materials from production to complete those prioritized jobs while working with the Scheduling Manager.
- Breakdown, clean, set up, and maintain sample forming and CNC machines.
- Material Handling, identification, and machine loading.
- Knowledge of machine support equipment.
- Ability to troubleshoot out of control processes.
Education and/or Experience
- 1-3 years of related thin plastic sample making experience or related experience with additional specialized training and or certification preferred.
- Technical knowledge of the thermoforming process.
- Machining and/or CNC experience preferred.
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks with competing priorities.
- Excellent organizational and oral/written communication skills are required.
- Be able to use machine shop equipment i.e. mill, grinders, welder, band saws.
- Be able to read and understand shop orders, various production documents and both oral and written job instructions.
- Ability to interact with a diverse group of individuals.
- Excellent analytic, problem-solving, and organization skills
- Positive attitude and the ability to work well with co-workers
Working Conditions
- Requires sitting, standing, and walking.
- Shift hours are according to work requirements and/or plant demands.
- Availability to work overtime and weekend, if necessary.
- Lifting over 100-pounds required with special assistance.
Additional Notes
- Must use safety shoes, safety glasses, gloves, ear plugs, hair and beard nets for the production area.
