When designing medical device packaging, a lot of focus is placed on product protection in order to deliver a sterile device into the hands of the surgeon. However, before it even reaches the surgeon the product must first go through operating theater assistants, theater coordinators and lead theater nurses. This important group of people need to know the package is free from defect, easy to work with and intuitive to use.
As part of its ongoing product innovation program, the design teams at Nelipak Healthcare Packaging conducted the first of two end-user focused workshops. The group consisted of nursing teams from general surgery, specialist orthopedic clinics and teaching hospitals. During the workshop session attendees gained insight into the manufacturing process for medical device and pharmaceutical packaging at Nelipak’s ISO 13485 certified Venray facility while offering valuable input on end-user needs and challenges. The nursing teams shared their views on a range of product package types, the challenges they face working with different packs, hospital and nursing needs in waste disposal, and more.
