Engineering Supervisor– Clara, Co. Offaly, IRL
The Engineering Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day leadership, coordination and supervision of the Engineering team, ensuring that production equipment and manufacturing assets are maintained to the highest standards of safety, quality, reliability and compliance.
The role is accountable for delivering preventative and corrective maintenance activities, supporting equipment installation and validation, driving continuous improvement initiatives, ensuring engineering compliance with GMP requirements, and developing a high-performing engineering team to maximise equipment uptime and operational efficiency.
What you will do:
- Ensure engineering activities comply with GMP, ISO 13485, FDA and company quality standards.
- Ensure engineering risk assessments, permits to work and contractor controls relating to engineering activities are completed and maintained.
- Lead investigations into equipment failures, engineering-related incidents and near misses, implementing robust corrective actions.
- Plan, priorities and supervise preventative and reactive maintenance activities across all production equipment and manufacturing assets.
- Monitor equipment performance, downtime trends and maintenance KPIs, implementing improvements to maximise equipment reliability and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
- Ensure that all maintenance work orders are completed accurately within the CMMS.
- Coordinate engineering resources to minimise production downtime while maintaining quality and safety standards.
- Support the installation, commissioning, qualification, and validation of new production equipment.
- Ensure calibration schedules are maintained for production equipment where Engineering has responsibility.
- Ensure preventative maintenance and service schedules are maintained for production equipment and facilities.
- Manage engineering spare parts inventory to ensure availability of critical components while controlling costs.
- Participate in engineering projects from concept through implementation.
- Work closely with Production, Quality, Validation, EHS, and Supply Chain to support operational objectives.
- Provide engineering expertise during customer and regulatory audits.
- Produce engineering performance reports and present KPIs to management.
- Promote and demonstrate a strong safety culture, ensuring full compliance with Health & Safety legislation and company procedures.
- Support automation, PLC-controlled equipment, robotics, and manufacturing technologies to optimise production performance.
- Lead, coach and develop Engineering Technicians through regular one-to-one meetings, performance reviews, and training plans.
- Allocate daily workloads and resources to meet operational priorities.
- Support recruitment, onboarding, and development of engineering personnel.
- Support & manage team, conduct regular one-to-one, performance management, identify training needs and develop Engineering team.
- Drive accountability, engagement, and continuous development within the Engineering team.
- Support succession planning and technical skills development.
- Support Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement initiatives to improve equipment reliability and reduce downtime.
- Identify opportunities to improve equipment performance, reduce waste, and optimise maintenance costs.
- Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) investigations using structured problem-solving methodologies.
- Support CAPA, deviations, change controls, and equipment validation activities.
- Ensure engineering documentation, SOPs, and maintenance procedures remain current and compliant.
- Participate in engineering call-out support where required.
- Carry out any other duties appropriate to the role.
Have you…
- Degree or Higher Certificate in Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, Mechatronic or Industrial Engineering (essential)
- Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement methodologies (desirable), Six Sigma Green Belt (desirable), Health & Safety / IOSH (desirable), Root Cause Analysis, (5 Why, Fishbone, RCA) CMMS maintenance systems, GMP / ISO 13485 / FDA awareness, Project Management experience (desirable)
- Significant engineering experience within a regulated manufacturing environment, with demonstratable experience of regulatory compliance and quality standards (essential)
- Previous supervisory or team leadership experience (essential)
- Experience establishing and managing preventative and corrective maintenance programmes (essential)
- Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and automation systems (essential)
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
